Honor the Women in Your Life

Do you know of a woman that selflessly gives to others while expecting nothing in return? Does she have a "Heart of Gold?" It's now time to honor those women at the 5th annual YWCA Hearts of Gold Luncheon.

The YWCA gives the Hearts of Gold award to four women during their annual Hearts of Gold Luncheon, which will be held on July 21, 2011. One award will be given for each of the following four categories: (1) Volunteerism; (2) Community commitment to women and children; (3) Empowering Women; (4) Removing cultural barriers and eliminating racism.

Nominations must be received in the YWCA Office by close of business on May 13, 2011. The YWCA is located at 229 16th Street, Rock Island.

Award Criteria are:

• Anyone (person or organization) may make the nomination.

• The nominee must be living.

• The nominee must be a woman.

• A description must be provided of why this woman is being nominated for the YWCA Hearts of Gold award.

• Provide a description of how the work done by the nominee and her leadership capabilities has positively impacted the lives of others.

• Give an example of how the nominee has made strides toward eliminating racism and/or empowering women.

• Describe any significant achievements, awards or other formal recognition for community service.

• The following criteria are utilized in reviewing and judging the nominations:The nominee gives freely and unselfishly by volunteering her time to community activities; The nominee inspires others and acts as a role model; The nominee has a positive impact on the direction and success of community projects, programs, or individuals; The nominee improves the lives of others; The nominee reflects the mission of the YWCA; to eliminate racism and to empower women.

The winners will be announced at the annual Hearts of Gold Luncheon on July 21, 2011 at the Holiday Inn, Rock Island. Tickets are $18 each or $140 for a table of 8.
